How to Become an Influencer

With the influencer and content creation industries becoming an ever-growing and supposed saturated space, many people are wondering if it's "too late" for them to get going on Instagram. I'm here to tell you that it's not too late to start!

My Story

In 2021, I was unhappy, underpaid, undervalued, and suffering from debilitating health issues trying to work my way up the corporate ladder. That same year, I quit my 9-5 to build the life of my dreams. The only problem was...I didn't have a plan or a clue what I would do next. ere's what I did know: My health and happiness were more important than anything else; I knew I would find a way to earn an income; and that "I'm scrappy as hell and I will always land on my feet" (Rachel Rodgers).

So off I went with my small following, no direction, limited skillset, and self doubt to pursue a career as a content creator/influencer. As a person fairly new to the space and considered a nano influencer (i.e. below 3000 followers), I've landed multiple 4-figure brand deals, features, launched a program where I offer business coaching + influencer strategy consultations, created digital products, and so much more!

Want to learn more? Check out the Tryna Be Somebody video podcast - where creator Hallease (@hallease.mp4) interviews (mostly) BIPOC artists and creatives about their careers. In my episode, I share how I started my journey as content creator in 2020, quitting my job, and how I landed paid partnerships with a small following across social platforms.

We collectively unpacked what our experiences have been like navigating the content creator space, working with brands, building community, and so much more.

This interview is for you if you:

  • Are an aspiring content creator who needs help getting started

  • Are looking to develop a winning strategy to excel as content creator

  • Want to learn how to engage brands on social media

  • Need tips on how to pitch and land brand partnerships

Our conversation about my journey as a nano influencer was meant to help those that aspire to become content creators, but it ended up being inspirational and a moment of awakening for myself. This was the first time I used the term "influencer" to define myself out loud/publicly. Imposter syndrome is real y'all! I'm so grateful for our transparent and vulnerable conversation, which is packed with so many gems and tools to help you take your influence and brand to the next level.
