Chinatown in Mexico City - Barrio Chino

I was surprised to find out there was a Chinatown better known as Barrio Chino in Mexico City.

The vibrant neighborhood of Barrio Chino (located in the historic center of Mexico City) has been home to Chinese migrants since the late 1800s.

During that time, the Mexican government wanted to build up the infrastructure (i.e. modernize the country) and tried attracting Western European immigrants, but were unsuccessful. Their lack of interest moved the government to allow Chinese workers into the country. Well, the interest soon faded leading to the expulsion of the majority of the Chinese population including those born in Mexico. #TheMoreYouKnow
